Decoding Pregnancy Stress: Insights from Oura on the Impact of Headspace Mindfulness
Stress and anxiety during pregnancy can lead to adverse outcomes like preterm births and low birth weights. A recent study published in JMIR Pediatrics and Parenting highlights the effectiveness of the Headspace app in reducing stress and anxiety during pregnancy.
Key Findings from the Study
- Stress and Anxiety Reduction:
- Significant reductions in self-reported stress (P=.005), anxiety (P=.01), and pregnancy-specific anxiety (P<.0001).
- Physiological stress, measured by heart rate variability (HRV), showed a 13% decrease in the low-frequency power band (P=.006).
- Improved Sleep and Overall Well-Being:
- 65% of participants reported improved sleep during the trial.
- 95% noted benefits in other areas of life, emphasizing mindfulness’s broad impact.
- High Engagement and Retention:
- Participant retention was 100%. Half of the participants completed 95% or more of the intervention.
