Elevance Health Foundation: $150M Commitment to Health Equity & Maternal Care

The Elevance Health Foundation has announced a renewed five-year strategy backed by a $150 million commitment to advance health equity. While they have historically funded various health initiatives, their current open cycles are specifically targeting Maternal/Infant Health and a new Patient Safety Challenge. This is a significant opportunity for non-profits delivering whole-person care to socially vulnerable populations.

Scope of Funding

The Foundation is prioritizing partnerships that drive measurable outcomes in the following areas:

  • Maternal & Infant Health (OPEN): Programs that reduce disparities in pre-term birth rates and severe maternal morbidity. Focus areas include addressing health-related social needs and removing barriers to care from pre-conception through postnatal stages.
  • Patient Safety Challenge (OPEN): A new initiative seeking community-informed solutions to improve patient safety, with a total prize pool of $5 million.
  • Future Cycles (Currently Closed): Funding for Food as Medicine and Behavioral Health (Mental Health & Substance Use Disorder) is expected to reopen in 2027.

Eligibility & Geography

Applicants must be 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. The Foundation categorizes eligible projects into two tiers:

  • National Programs: Initiatives capable of promoting scalable, sustainable, and systemic change across the U.S.
  • Local Programs: Targeted interventions implemented specifically in California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia.

Partnership Priorities

Successful proposals will demonstrate a commitment to health equity and whole-person health. The Foundation looks for interventions that are culturally relevant to the populations served and programs that build trust through community-centric design. Data-driven outcomes and the ability to scale solutions are critical components of a winning application.

Deadlines

  • Maternal/Infant Health: July 31, 2026
  • Patient Safety Challenge: Open Now (Inaugural Cycle)
  • Food as Medicine / Behavioral Health: Reopening in 2027
